How to cope with round objects
This is post number 19 in a series of cargo securing advice and useful hints. These are meant for people who think economically. They do not like to waste time, muscle power, risk their health or pay fines even if you must carry round objects like rolls, cans or barrels.
Terribly challenging, as round slippery surfaces will cause the straps to slide off. What to do?
Use a strong fabric, where the lashing forces can transfer to the fabric. This way, you will distribute the lashing forces as evenly as possible across the entire surface. The surface pressure is the same all over the top. The fabric will form itself around round objects and therefore there is no force that would move the lashing material from its location. At the same time, you will prevent the items themselves from moving. This saves a lot of time compared to the alternative, climbing up and placing first the straps in the correct places (if possible). In many cases you can skip also the corner protectors due to less surface pressure under the fabric. You can always ask for certificates from third party tests wehere your type of cargo has been used.
Drive safely,
